And the Mountains Echoed

I picked up a copy of Khaled Hosseini’s latest book, And the Mountains Echoed yesterday on a spontaneous jaunt through Chapters. Not aware that he had published another book, I was thrilled. I rifled through his first two novels in record time and was amazed by how vivid he crafts his words to paint such a clear portrait of worlds so many of us have little to no familiarity with. The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns are both stories that explore friendships, relationships, family, hardships, struggle, all pitted against a backdrop of war torn times and animosity. I was very impressed specifically with his writing from A Thousand Splendid Suns as he captured the feminine perspective with an incredible vulnerability that had me in tears (like ugly crying tears) by the last few pages of the book. Writing with family as a reoccurring theme has given Hosseini an ability to connect with many, and probably explains his success as a writer and why his books have sold over 38 millions worldwide. I’m excited to start this book, like NOW!

Have a great weekend, everyone! What do you all have planned? Whatever you do have planned, listen to this latest track by Capitol Cities. So let the dance parties begin!

  1. I just picked up this book over the weekend as well and have had trouble putting it down! The first story about how he had to give up one child was so sad, tragic, beautiful….it is such a well written story. Glad you liked it!

    • I’m halfway through the book and am blown away again by how impactful his writing is. Are you finished the book? We should chat about it!
